When we were young
They taught us the five W’s
Who what when where why
I feel today they only teach
The four words:
Do it for me.

Change

There are times
When you must stop
And listen
To the world around you
As it crumbles
Like sand, clenched tightly
You must stop
Look at your actions
And stop

How many shootings
Must occur
Before people start looking
At what the issues are?
How many lives
Must be involuntarily ended
Before the powers at be
Decide to take action
And fend for what is truly right.

Diamonds

Savor the memories
For they will outlast
The frivolous fights
The ferocious fallouts
The final feelings
That scar the end
If you can hold on
To those precious gems
And guard them against
The sea of anger, sorrow
Doubt and angst
They will one day
Polish off and shine
Like the truly beautiful
Diamonds that they are
Created by all the pain
And pressure of the hardships
