Music Box

December 17, 2014

The sweet sound
Of you unwinding
And finding the silence
Of equilibrium
The stress in your spring
Slowly going out
Releasing a melodic purr
Alas, once serenity is found
There is no more sweet soft sound
So wind you up again I do
Until one day
Your spring will break
And I’ll never hear
Your sweet music again.

King and Brown

December 5, 2014

In a dank bar
Somewhere
In the south
Of St. Louis
The bar stool prophet
Sat on his stool
Contemplating aloud
“The worst thing
About what’s happening
Outside this tavern,
Is the media
Blaming the blacks,
Once again
For the injustice
Done onto them.
It’s about time,
A new Malcolm X,
Or Martin Luther King Jr.
Stepped up to the plate
And taught folks
It isn’t about black
Or white, right or wrong
Anger or vengeance
But about taking a stand
Against the oppression
Of Rodney King,
Michael Brown
And any, and all
Of those pushed
Shoved, beaten down
Or even shot.
Enough is enough,
And even me here
In my stool knows
This is not right.
It’s time to stand up
And rise like the phoenix
From the ash
A powerful symbol
Of all this suffering.”

Lost Soul

October 8, 2014

He was chasing the demons
He used to know
Unsure where
He could go
To the bottle
To the bar
To a place
Oh so far
Gone beyond
Where he could reach
Passed the place
The preacher preached
Into a void
Of darker days
In a place
No one dared gaze
He was lost
To the street
Begging at
The suit’s feet
Wishing for
Another fix
Hearing the tumblers
Of his final lock click
Closing the casket
With nine inch nails
Another lost soul
The city has failed

Can you be my friend?

May 13, 2014

Silently suffering
In this rabid world
Unsure what to do.
Can you be my friend?

Solemnly sitting
Alone as always
Unsure what to do.
Can you be my friend?

Softly sobbing
Empty in heart
Unsure what to do.
Can you be my friend?

Surreally seeing
Nothing but black
Unsure what to do.
Can you please be my friend?

Danger

May 6, 2013

Danger is the word
Too many live by
Fighting away
For no purpose
None at all
Danger is the word
Too many die for
Fighting away
For what purpose
None at all.

Tidal Wave

April 14, 2013

Dramatic life
Lived to fast
Without passion
Love won’t last

Sad story
Seen from far
Every time leaving
The same old scar

Troubled girl
More troubled man
Drugs abused
Like it was the plan

Depression hits
Like a tidal wave
And from that mess
You cannot be saved

Holy War

March 18, 2013

Herded like cattle
Towards a light so pure
Fooled by evil
Becoming unsure.

Tormented and tortured
Haunted to the soul
Breaking their wills
The ultimate goal.

With all the suffering
And undo pain
It’s a wonder
There was no shame.

In the end
Of this war of the east
There will never be rest
Nor will there be peace.
