Wondering alone
Through a sea of emptiness
In search of shore

The Other Side

March 30, 2014

The city is like
Being stuck in
A giant mason jar
Your fate, your fear
Your pride, your joy
Your regret, your mistakes
Are all mashed together
In this air-tight
Inescapable trap
Clear enough
To look through
But thick enough
To distort all light
Coming through
And the green
Seems ever so vivid
On the other side

End Game

March 29, 2014

Time is perceived
As moving linearly
To a fixed ending

March 28, 2014

A zipper
Pulled across
The mouths
Of a million
Dissatisfied citizens.
Democracy at it’s finest.

How could it be
I thought I was cured
Of this longing despair
When really
My brain
Was playing tricks
On my heart

True Beauty

March 26, 2014

In a dingy diner
Her rough smile
Illuminated the room
The grey hair
Not quite in order
But distinguished
Pulled back
As she sipped
A cup of black coffee
And did the local crossword
Her gruff voice
From years of smoking
Croaked out
“I may not be beautiful
But I sure as hell understand
Beauty gets destroyed
Intelligence lasts a lifetime”

Thoughts of the past
Haunt my mind
Like some kind of ghost
Waiting and lingering
In loveless limbo
Wondering why
I don’t let go
Purgatory of passion
Pain is pursued
These demons of mine
They’re never removed
Just taking up space
One after the next
And when a new one enters
Not a single one has left
Eventually they’ll drive me
Complete insane
And that’s what I get
For loving in vain
